Today, most sites manually create scripts for virtual system image and deployment in the cloud. This consumes time and can introduce error. Now, systems vendors are coming to the rescue with new automation tools that expedite and bulletproof the process. This is good news for the cloud.

Thanks for the reply, Mary. Also, it seems there have been some interface additions and tweaks to make these tools appeal to a winder range of user, including a wider range of IT user.

Yes, they have been around in various past incarnations, Mary.

The difference here is that some vendors are actually beginning to open up their software to other platforms than it has traditionally been run on.

Thanks for your update on the new virtual image tools, Mary. Interesting that virtualization has been around for years now, and that management tools have existed, but only now has there been a full-bore effort to create these kinds of facilitating programs. I suppose this is yet another lesson that technology may hang around for years before someone decides to market it differently -- then everything old seems new again.

Am I wrong here in supposing that these capabilities have already been available in more arcane and/or vendor-specific management products?
