The recent launch of the EchoStar XVII satellite has the potential to increase broadband satellite communications' top speed from megabits to gigabits of bandwidth. Hughes Network Systems plans to test its high-speed satellite broadband services this summer and roll them out this fall.

Hughes will have to offer competitive pricing plan to attract more users. Right now Hughes doesnt really offer any differentiated product to stand out amongst other service providers.

Good point. It will be interesting to see how Hughes prices its services. The company will have more bandwidth at its disposal. However, its customer base is relatively small and its infrastructure investments significant. Ideally while it probably won't be able to compete with the local cable company, perhaps it will do a better job of supporting its customers' video demands.

That's great news Paul but what dampens my enthusiasm are the usage and service caps by HughesNet broadband , with the increase in demand for video these caps seems laughable what good will the satellite serve if the consumer is hardly deriving any benifit from it?
