The Unimportance of Real-Time Search

The big news at the Web 2.0 Summit was that Twitter partnered with Google and Bing, enabling the search engines to show Tweets in search results. This couldn't possibly be less interesting.

tweet: RT @netevolution Innercity digital divide comparison documentary from around the world #insultant, #stevensaunders http..bit.ly/IEVOW2

if there was such documentary released today/yesterday/this week and I searched for stevensaunders on Google/Bing, I myself would find the tweet above more relevant than lets say this website as a result.

taking it a step further, if a user is able to see a simple 'LIKE' next to a result similar to facebook like, very similar WITH which one of their peers liked the item, that would obviously assist heavily in filtering results that are important (self importance) to that individual. Social Search?

tweet: Steven Saunders has the greatest tech documentaries of all time #insultant, #StevenSaunders bit.wee/IEVOWE2.

that would be HIGHLY relevant IF the bit.wee(bit.ly) linked back to the LATEST documentary here at IE?

ADDING social search, maybe I would get to see which one of my social connects LIKED the item(nicole, viboon, thinkernetter(s)etc), weeding out the 'other' steven saunders, i.e., stevensaunders.co.uk within the search results.

"Can one of your expert thinkernneters give us an indepth analysis of the marketing value of real-time search?"

It's going to come from the clansters.

tweet two -see this vblog about real time search #what.the.ferraro  http...bit.wee/RTSWTF?

my search term(s) Google/Bing "What.The.Ferraro"

THENNN,

Nicole is really excited about real time search #what.the.ferraro 13 seconds ago

imma let you finish but Nicole Ferraro had the greatest vblog of all time!!! of ALL TIME #what.the.ferraro 3 hours ago

see this vblog about real time search #what.the.ferraro  http...bit.wee/RTSWTF? tweeting in 13 hours.

as you can see, real time search not only covers chatter on the web including linkbacks to WEB PAGES in real time, IT WILL ALSO TELL THE FUTURE!

Add social search not only will it weed out the IRRELEVANT results, you may be able to see in REAL TIME which one of your trusted sources (FRIENDS ON THE SOCIAL NETWORKS) thought about the RANKING or the result set.

Thank you.

agree... this is just marketing fluff. missing in the mainstream media's analysis of both deals was the "why?"

why would anyone want to be able to search tweets? it's nonsense

I don't normally agree with you on alot of things on the boards but i'm inclined to follow your reasoning on this one. I really don't see how this will enhance my search experience.

Twitter said its deal with both Google and MSFT was not focus on 'revenue' and both MSFT AND google claimed they have no intentions to placed ads on tweets. Who is fooling who in this case?

Can one of your expert thinkernneters give us an indepth analysis of the marketing value of real-time search?

You're right, Nicole. Companies that don't have much to say invent some news. The items you mention have all the earmarks -- big names and nothing going on.

Sometimes this kind of non-news precedes something big, or is designed to divert attention from other news that's actually more interesting but competitively threatening.

Ideas, anyone?

What can users today do to protect their online privacy? The simplest and most obvious option is to not use the Internet – at all. However, once all digital information is consolidated over the Internet, trying to protect digital identity by simply unplugging from the Internet becomes impossible – a fact that has manifest implications for civil liberties, Saunders says.

By 2011 the number of Internet-connected sensors will exceed 1 trillion, making your chances of doing anything or going anywhere unnoticed pretty much zero. Saunders talks about how the 'sensortization' of the Internet is eliminating the traditional divide between online and offline populations.

The 20th Century Internet was characterized by the ability to interact with other people and information on the Internet largely without anyone knowing who you were. The Internet of this century, conversely, will be defined by identity. Saunders explains how Internet users are unwittingly contributing to the demise of the anonymous Internet.
