But my Laptop from 2002 still works. And my 5 year old G5 is just fine, but Stevie really cut our guts out when he obsolesced us by making Snow Leopard Intel only. (I can't believe I spelled obsolesced correctly on the first try).
we (the IE Staff) were thinking of inviting everyone to a chat - bit of a free for all. Terry doesn't think it's a good idea becuase i swear too much, but i guess jason has broken the seal on swearing. LOL!
Corn is not going to solve our problems. It takes too much energy to make it into fuel. The best solution is a lot of solar across arizona http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=a-solar-grand-plan
The agribusiness corps pushed Corn ethanol and the Govt went with it. but have you noticed that Corn for food pretty much doubled because of it, and the ethanol produced for one tank (as the source I read) was equal to feed a person corn products for a year. NPR was following a test study where a scuientist was growing Hemp to produce ethanol (but it is illegal like pot) and concluded that hemp is more renwable and producies greater energy than what is needed to produce it.

Android will have a killer phone and platform in 12-18 months. at that point i think i will be blackberry +anroid (as opposed to now, where i'm 65% blackberrry, 35% iphone usage... yes, i carry two)
that being said, i think the USA will be fine long-term if we can get the hell out of the middle east and invest in solar and nuclear technology.... you know, instead of funding terrorist
Jason, we didn't have time to get to it on the audio, but you blogged in August with a threat to dump all your Apple products based on some nasty, anti-competitive behavior from the vendor. Where are you with your thinking there now?
I think Gawker and Weblogs are 30-50% margin businesses if run properly. my guess is Gawker makes $10-12M a year with $3-5m in profites for Nick Denton. not a bad life!
mtechie... US newspapers have had a problem with keeping good content because their best writers were paid very well. (thanks to unions) Cost cuts meant lopping off older more experienced writers in favor of kids out of J-School or ones that do it for free.

I have a question for the chat (finally, I have one!) How do they get their results? Only from User generated content? I did a search on myself and nothing showed, though I am on other search engines.
Well, certainly I am not on Jason's e-mail list, but have you ever been made fun of by diverse personalities such as Chuck Jones and James Ellroy? I can brag about that!
