Using the internet to change the world has potential through carefully crafted memes introduced through a variety of internet venues. But I think it unlikely that any meme introduced on the internet will be very effective unless ther are other cultural changes being propagated within society and that will be dependent on strong leadership. Needs research and experimentation.
I thought it was a good conversation. I detected a hint of disappointment in his voice when he mentioned Obama. Curious how he thinks the administration is doing so far with regard to its use of the Web.
So that's a bit disappointing that Joe has to leave before taking any questions... Still, I'd love to hear if there were any good takeaways for folks here from the audio part of the convo.
Terry, I unfortunately need to duck out to the airport, but hope that you will continue the discussion without me. I think all of you have some great ideas about where we are headed.
Great question from nathanwosnack: where do you see future presidential campaigns (i.e. 2012) going when it pertains to the utilization of new technologies? Do you see continual use of MeetUp, Twitter, Facebook? Do you envision something else altogether?

perhaps "validation" would have been a better word than "truth"? Totally against censorship but feel the speed of communication on the Internet and the reaction by folks to what they see needs some "help".
Truth often changes after certain facts are brought to life. More like "Truth, to the best of our ablities". I agree with postive re-enforcement; being lablelled as reliable and sincere is something to strive for and is a major selling point on the 'Net as a trustworthy source of information.
Did anyone else see the "government as a vending machine" commentary from Tim O'Reilly? O'Reilly basically says that government should be the platform for serving citizens a variety of different services from both public and private ventures.
Should there be a "truth filter" added to the Internet....created by those "independent Internet managers" to make it as truthful as possible.....that all large distribution communication goes through before they are "received"?
The Internet is what we make of it. Sometimes people wait around for someone else to come up with visionary ideas and cliche buzzwords so they can attach themselves to it. Content and communication. That's what it's about. Forget the "flavours of the week".
Hi-Tech isn't a bread-and-butter issue. For instance, in "high tech" California, the entire tech industry is smaller than the value of the single largest agricultural cash crop. Which, amusingly enough, is marijuana.
Wondering what Trippi thinks of this whole move to open/transparent government via the Web. How open should government be? How's Obama doing so far on that front?
In regards to content... my understanding of social media is you make a statement to the best of your abilities at the time, and modify your statement and views based on new information that comes to light. I wonder if it will become more politically sound to admit being wrong when proven wrong

Research shows that the youth of today like Facebook – but not blogging or Twitter. Does that mean Facebook has won, or just that it's not yet out of favor? Will all the services we see today fade into Ovaltine-or-Wheaties status in just a few years?
What kinds of companies are doing the most innovation in the data center? Turns out it's midtier enterprises that are taking the "Just Right" approach.
