Ha.  Yes, I guess Nate can write about whatever numbers he likes until the mid-term.  Maybe it's time for another baseball/big-data blog here.

If Nate Silver can parlay his skills at manipulating baseball statistics into a nationally-known blog and political pundit position... anyone can?

If we could work out a way to incorpoate Yankee baseball in the workplace, that would be great.  It would also annoy our video producer who is a Red Sox fan.  Win win.

Yes, I agree.  An authentic spirit of play and collaboration is taking hold in progressive workplaces today.  As you point out, initiatives of this nature were largely lip service in years past.  Changes in teamwork derived from fantasy sports and games in general are only part of the story though.  Globalization of those activities holds a new promise for collaboration beyond borders in areas such as politics, medical breakthroughs and the environment, to name a few.

I recall in the 90s, when a lot of these business retreats focused on some element of aggression/competitiveness, as well as some team-building. It's refreshing that now more organizations now totally focus on areas like collaboration and seem to have shunned the more exclusive/elitist elements. Even when you weren't in the shunned group, it was a cruel game of one-upmanship that I never thought did anything other than promote an environment of fear and cliques. Delighted that today's workplace, for the most part, is more humane and intelligent--although I'm sure there are still companies that do rule through fear, i doubt they'll be at the top or at the top for long.

It was about 10 years ago when a new generation of software-as-a-service (SaaS) alternatives started to gain acceptance and adoption among organizations of all sizes. And it has only been about five years since Amazon Web Services captured the marketplace's attention with Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3, which opened the door to a vast array of infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings. Now, the third piece of the cloud computing puzzle is beginning to win over organizations seeking to build their own apps: platform-as-a-service (PaaS).

Argument Over Top-Level Domains Is 'Stupid'

The whole Amazon.reader debate is a double-stupid. It's stupid to think that there's any e-book buyer who doesn't know Amazon's URL, and it was stupider to let ICANN launch the whole free-form TLD initiative to start with.
