how do the disruptors create a radically different value proposition?

Rank: Cave Painter

thank you!

Rank: Cave Painter

do you see age of users a factor in adoption of "cloud"?

Rank: Cave Painter

do you think social media will become the most powerful enabler?

Rank: Cave Painter

any preference on the frameworks

Rank: Cave Painter

just catching up

Rank: Cave Painter

Thanks Craig for the wonderfull presentation

IQ Crew

IS cloud is reliabile in all the sense

IQ Crew

if tomarrow, some thing happens, what would be the recover plans for cloud

IQ Crew

whether industry is making use of cloud in its full context is important

IQ Crew

thats a good question-"Where the cloud is taking us"

IQ Crew

To call my own...

Rank: Cave Painter

I got nobody...

Rank: Cave Painter

I am so lonely....

Rank: Cave Painter

Lonely....

Rank: Cave Painter

Guess i'll just stream and dl the slides...and listen all by myself

Rank: Cave Painter

Crap, missed again

Rank: Cave Painter

thanks again; bye all

Rank: Cave Painter

"see" you all soon..in the meantime..see you all "in community" :-)

IQ Crew

BOOM

Rank: Cave Painter

thank you!

Rank: Cave Painter

thanks great!

Rank: Cave Painter

thanks for a great session

Rank: Cyborg

Thank you ! Until the next class.

Rank: Cave Painter

@nestorba:  I believe we will....

IQ Crew

@Kim. Are we done?

Rank: Cave Painter

I hope we all will get credit for having been here!

Rank: Cave Painter

I missed the show?  OOPS.  Had wrong time zone loaded into schedule.  Sorry I missed it!

Rank: Cave Painter

Great point, labnuke

Thinkernetter

Another driving factor may be, same as IS/IT outsourcing, the expertise to develop apps in house.

Rank: Cave Painter

many of the cost savings are missing the element of bandwidth and bits - additional capacity & reliable connections are required for cloud services and then the cloud provider may charge you for the bits up/down and stored - those are often hard to estimate early in the TCO process

Rank: Cyborg

@Ilan: I understand we'll get an email....I am counting on it LOL :-)

IQ Crew

Terrific, Kim. Look forward to hearing the rest of Craig's great presentation.

Thinkernetter

great presentation!

Rank: Cave Painter

The archived show should be available right after we're done here.

Thinkernetter

Yes, as you said, Craig, cost seems to becoming one of the lesser motivators now that IT and business are discovering so many other reasons they to adopt cloud

Thinkernetter

and speaking of cost savings I assume we get that starbucks card mailed to use LOL?

Rank: Cave Painter

I still would luv to get the archive to share with colleagues....

IQ Crew

...we have to be smart about its' adoption....and craig's insights have been invaluble....

IQ Crew

Will we receive an e-mail with the archive link, once that is ready?

Rank: Cave Painter

anyone who ignored the cloud..does so at their peril.

IQ Crew

I think it is still hard to say the effects on global economic conditions on cloud adoption.. since cloud adoption is driving by multiple factors.. not just cost reduction, as an example

Thinkernetter

Very good.  Thanks.

Rank: Cave Painter

Thanks Prof Craig, Kim & Mitch. I will listen to the archive later today..

Rank: Cave Painter

I guess once you trust whomever is managing your cloud if you do not do it yourself you are at their mercy

Rank: Cave Painter

Craig, do you have a global perspective?  We've been seeing slower cloud adoption in Europe, and especially the UK, than the US.

Thinkernetter

And the area of business and/or IT driving cloud adoption... will we see less 'rogue' clouds, then, because of both these trends you've found?

Thinkernetter

thanks again Craig - good pt. about integration of clouds being most important to overcome security concerns

Rank: Cave Painter

It's also interesting that you show we're moving quickly away from pilots.

Thinkernetter

Thank you and have great day!

Rank: Cave Painter

right .. integrating clouds.. but also integrating cloud into the broader it fabric

Thinkernetter

Bye, all.

Rank: Cave Painter

By integration concerns, you mean figuring out how cloud integrates with existing systems?  Integrating private and public cloud?

Thinkernetter

That's interesting, Craig. So will open standards be more important, then?

Thinkernetter

Some things good for future investment!

Rank: Cave Painter

many cloud services charge not only for the platfor/environment but for the storage and movement of bits - they get you for coming, going and staying!

Rank: Cyborg

i think security concerns will give way to integration concerns..

Thinkernetter

Oh, and Greg, the slides were very informative and we really appreciated the Notes! Thanks again.

Rank: Cave Painter

Will the security concern ever disappear?

Thinkernetter

I'll go to see the archive.

Rank: Cave Painter

each time I learn something

Rank: Cyborg

:) thanks Craig

Rank: Cyborg

I think that PaaS has the greatest opportunity to transform companies.. it allows for a level of standardization on developing applications.. but still allows customization and innovation in the final application that is presented..

Thinkernetter

How is it likely to affect higher education - seems some institutions are headed that way, but there is concern for privacy.

Rank: Cave Painter

I think it was yesterday's WSJ mentioned that ATT is going to invest $14Billion in upgrades in the next 2 years or so - a huge number in a relatively short period

Rank: Cyborg

Well done! Craig

Rank: Cave Painter

Thanks for the lecture/ppt, Craig.

Rank: Cave Painter

good charts

Rank: Cyborg

Craig, do you have the sense that one service model (SaaS, PaaS, etc) is having more effect on re-shaping businesses than others?

Thinkernetter

thanks for the charts, neither firefox nor ie produced any  sound, will check the archive, bye

Rank: Cave Painter

One thing that continues to fascinate me about cloud is its flexibility. So you hear about non-tech companies, like construction firms for example, getting into offering cloud-based services. Are there any industries you think will be offering cloud-based services in the future who aren't doing so today?

Thinkernetter

good info thank you

Rank: Cyborg

the idea of latency and growth of cloud is not one i have spent time on.. but it a worthy topic to dig into for sure..

Thinkernetter

Thank you!

Rank: Cave Painter

Interesting!

Rank: Cave Painter

http://www.att.com/network/ but Verizon showed more cities being ready to be added

Rank: Cave Painter

I heard recently we have slower Internet access than even China - we still have lots of infrastructure work to do, I guess.  It seems like the pendulum swings from centralized (mainframes) IT to decentralized  (servers) IT and back again (cloud).  Maybe I've been in the business too long.  Keeps it interesting though!

Rank: Cave Painter

Well, will what happen next.

Rank: Cave Painter

That makes a lot of sense, Craig. And do you see that expanding beyond AT&T into partnerships with other telcos, perhaps? Or similar agreements between telcos and cloud experts?

Thinkernetter

I hadn't seen the AT&T news.  That's very interesting.

Thinkernetter

Clearly teleco providers have moved agressively into cloud.. as an example, we just launched a joint alliance with AT&T to align our enterprise cloud with their network..

Thinkernetter

I know Homeland Security is doing a lot with cloud, in terms of improving the whole customer experience. And that, of course, is part of the fed's push toward cloud. Are there examples you can share with us that you see as being particularly leading?

Thinkernetter

How much time left for the show?

Rank: Cave Painter

yes, good points being made.  Too bad I can't hear them!

Rank: Cave Painter

Craig: something which has come up several times - is limited bandwidth going to retard rapid development of cloud?

Thinkernetter

What is the priority for Tier 1 carriers (e.g. Verizon and AT&T) to enhance and expand cloud services over the next hree year period?

Rank: Cave Painter

Yes, tons of information in the slides.

Rank: Cave Painter

okay, will wait for the archive then.  Thanks!

Rank: Cave Painter

Yes, me too! The PowerPoint was great. Really well put together. Lots of food for thought!

Thinkernetter

Will North America finally get a 21st century Internet Super Highway sometime soon?

Rank: Cave Painter

yes.. i agree.. the playing field is leveling..  we can see smaller business gaining access to resources once only available to the largest of enterprises..

Thinkernetter

So - I guess we'll just wait for the archived version.  Too bad.  Isn't technology wonderful!

Rank: Cave Painter

With connectivity issues like this, I wonder what the future of the cloud is.

Rank: Cave Painter

Thank you Craig for presenting and for the informative slide pack.

IQ Crew

yep.. i am happy to stick around..

Thinkernetter

Thanks Craig. Was really looking forward to it. Have to play it tomorrow.

Rank: Cave Painter

Craig, what we heard was very interesting. I found it fascinating how companies are using/going to use cloud to improve the customer experience. It seems as though this will really help midsize companies compete against much bigger firms... do you agree?

Thinkernetter

So it was not just my connection.

Rank: Cave Painter

Technical problem!

Rank: Cave Painter

The archived version of the audio should be available immediately.

Thinkernetter

Thanks for the patience all. We had a technical problem with the audio. You can listen to the playback later and Craig is availble now for questions.

Thinkernetter

thanks Craig

Rank: Cave Painter

Craig - sounded good while it was on. Will listen when available on recorded archives.

Rank: Cave Painter

We're investigating what happened with the audio.  Certainly none of us are happy about it.  Craig's talk was recorded and will be available in archive.  I could hear it on direct feed and it's well worth a listen.

Thinkernetter

I'll catch the archives

Rank: Cave Painter

I will check the archive later.

Rank: Cave Painter

The presentation is informative just can't here.

Rank: Cave Painter

@ren the audio broke middle of the session

Rank: Cave Painter

And the cyborgs

Rank: Cave Painter

Craig, shall we drop off?  Try again another time?

Rank: Cave Painter

well.. i kept going .. so i think it was recorded!

Thinkernetter

Guess they disconnected the cave painters.

Rank: Cave Painter

audio is off

Rank: Cyborg

Audio is absent again

Rank: Cave Painter

sorry folks.. not sure what happened!

Thinkernetter

Guess I'll check the archive tomorrow.

bye all...

Rank: Cave Painter

I never even got an envelope (can you say Charlie Brown)!

Rank: Cave Painter

Running latest version of flash player - still no audio.

Rank: Cave Painter

i only got the envelope with a big hole in it

Rank: Cave Painter

last time my 7dee pin was lost in the mail

Rank: Cave Painter

thx, docelder. that makes sense

Rank: Cave Painter

See ya Docelde

Rank: Cave Painter

hope it get fixed before next week's series

Rank: Cave Painter

Arrrgh! And now I *need* that Starbucks more than ever!

Rank: Cave Painter

I'll check the archives tomorrow!  Bye y'all

Rank: Cave Painter

Avast mateys; we arved been boarded by a rogue cloud an ad the audio pirated away.  Perchance they could use Cisco webconference in the future.   Swab the bilges and scuppers mateys.

Rank: Cave Painter

i thought it was just me! 8-)

Rank: Cave Painter

No reason the speaker shouldn't be available shortly for online chat.

Thinkernetter

disintermediate means to possibly change or cut out some middle men in the value chain, usually

Rank: Cave Painter

Baked alaskan

Rank: Cave Painter

Tomas -- I think you can still post questions for the speaker.  Does anyone know if the speaker is coming online to answer questions?

IQ Crew

still nada

Rank: Cave Painter

Hopefully the archive won't have 20 minutes of blank tape

Rank: Cave Painter

No audio here

Rank: Cave Painter

i'd like to listen to know what "disintermediate" means (slide 17)

Rank: Cave Painter

Is this going to be rescheduled for a later time perhaps?   I only have so much time I can block off today.   Also, while we have a good speaker, it would be nice for him to touch on a a few concrete examples when he starts describing concepts.  I feel like I am seeing a lot of buzzwords in the slides  but not a lot of specifics in the talk.

Rank: Cave Painter

No audio here either

Rank: Cave Painter

UNfortunately this means I will just have to go back to work!

Rank: Cave Painter

did anybody try to click on the remote? try another channel?

Rank: Cave Painter

My grades say I passed anyway, won't need the extra credit

Rank: Cave Painter

becalmed?

Rank: Cave Painter

Sorry, but everybody will get "INCOMPLETE", not totes either!

Rank: Cave Painter

Not ready for primetime

Rank: Cave Painter

so, is this to be rescheduled?  Or, we need to wait for a while?

Rank: Cave Painter

still no audio yet!

Rank: Cave Painter

so *this* is "where the cloud is taking us" ... LOL

Rank: Cave Painter

is this application running on a cloud?

IQ Crew

and now our geust lecturer - marcel marceu

Rank: Cave Painter

Is this where the cloud is taking us?

Rank: Cave Painter

LOL.. yeah break out the swag!

Rank: Cave Painter

dead in the water  here ...

Rank: Cave Painter

And you wonder why we go to rogue clouds and IT  :-)

Rank: Cave Painter

must be like the office365 outage on Tues

Rank: Cyborg

@Mitch   please post when audio returns

Rank: Cave Painter

At least the slides are impressive!

Rank: Cave Painter

i ain't got no time for this

Rank: Cave Painter

I just want my Diploma  ;-)

Rank: Cave Painter

audio went to a diffrent cloud? :)

Rank: Cave Painter

Refreshed browser window, pushed play, still no audio...

Rank: Cave Painter

The audio is currently down.

Thinkernetter

I hope I still get my classy lookin tote!  :(

Rank: Cave Painter

@django1   So you brought all the audio down?

Rank: Cave Painter

Homer Simpson:  Start the movie! start the movie!

Rank: Cave Painter

We are still recording audio.

Thinkernetter

I spoke too soon, refresh and play and even close the tab and relogin did not get the audio back

Rank: Cave Painter

We're having a technical problem.  Sorry.

Thinkernetter

Aerosmith: Just push play

Rank: Cave Painter

it started on slide 3????

Rank: Cave Painter

well we can look at slide deck while we wait

Rank: Cave Painter

Hopefully the archive will have the full audio.

Rank: Cave Painter

is the webex still going?  Audio dropped all of a sudden, can't even hit the play button

Rank: Cave Painter

i guess all of us did

Rank: Cave Painter

who dropped the cone of silence on us? ;)

IQ Crew

F% = audio button gone; yikes

Rank: Cave Painter

there is no audio

Rank: Cave Painter

i lost the audio

Rank: Cave Painter

I pushed play, it worked!

Rank: Cave Painter

the sound of silence

Rank: Cave Painter

at least I'm not alone on this... :)

Rank: Cave Painter

I thought it was just me.

IQ Crew

everything stopped

Rank: Cave Painter

lost audio as well... and can't press the play-button right now...

Rank: Cave Painter

I raised my buffering size and that worked for a while - not now though

Rank: Cave Painter

Audio gone..

Rank: Cave Painter

gone here too.

Rank: Cave Painter

Lost audio

Rank: Cave Painter

audio gone (again)

Rank: Cave Painter

no audio

Rank: Cave Painter

I was just reading Information week earlier: The Feds are targeting a 25% move of the $80 billion federal IT budget to the cloud

Rank: Cave Painter

no audio

Rank: Cave Painter

no sound now...what happened?

Rank: Cave Painter

player stopped all of a sudden

Rank: Cave Painter

where did the autio go????

Rank: Cave Painter

now audio is gone...

Rank: Scrivener

lost audio

Rank: Cave Painter

oops audio gone?

Rank: Cyborg

Gotta have a Cloud Picture and analogy these days

Rank: Cave Painter

clouds drifting in and out of the ecosystems.... nice metaphor

Rank: Cave Painter

Latest Flash and IE solved my audio problem with these webcasts

Rank: Cave Painter

Audio drifting in & out ( using Safari )

Rank: Cave Painter

Audio is coming okay in chrome.

Rank: Cave Painter

@mfortin & @geoSEAN Today I was able to resolve the "...hitting play" issues by hitting play, immediately hitting pause, waiting 5 secs, then hitting play again.

Rank: Cave Painter

could that be a flash problem?

Rank: Cave Painter

audio finally working.   earlier suggestion of pause and play seemed to help.   What is a cave painter; I feel a little insulted by this.

Rank: Cave Painter

@Craig - do you see that companies are more adopting of cloud storage for employee Y:\ drives or they using storage and processing capabilities for serious "sensitive data?"

Rank: Scrivener

Audoi comes in 5 second segments? (IE9)

Rank: Cave Painter

Slide 10

Rank: Cave Painter

Yes, rogue clouds have been a problem.  Now IT is more accepting of cloud, I wonder whether that issue is decreasing

Thinkernetter

audio keeps going out.  really?

Rank: Cave Painter

Had to restart session what slide are we on?

IQ Crew

rouge clouds are bad news for IT

Rank: Cave Painter

Thanks for presenting Craig.

IQ Crew

@sspclan   Today I was able to resolve the "...hitting play" issues by hitting play, immediately hitting pause, waiting 5 secs, then hitting play again.

Rank: Cave Painter

I have no audio either and I'm using Firefox.

Rank: Cave Painter

The shift from products to services is fascinating.

Thinkernetter

Business Leaders always drive adoption with the purse strings, IT has to learn how to speak their language

Rank: Cave Painter

This bodes well for midsize organizations, I should think.

Thinkernetter

Don't business leaders already drive cloud adoption, through so-called "rogue clouds" -- signing up for cloud services without the blessing of IT?

Thinkernetter

slide 7

Rank: Cave Painter

You advance your own slides.  If you have problems with audio, even after hitting play/refresh, it may be a problem with Internet Explorer, or possibly a firewall.

Thinkernetter

Yes, I think Craig is right on the money here.

Thinkernetter

Notes are good!

Rank: Cave Painter

Audio is good here.

Rank: Cave Painter

Ah notes in .ppt, I appreciate that later!

Rank: Cave Painter

Must keep hitting play   :(

Rank: Cave Painter

has this started yet?

Rank: Cave Painter

have to click play

Rank: Cave Painter

Interesting results, re: collaboration

Thinkernetter

Audio is not working.

Rank: Cave Painter

hope audio works

Rank: Cave Painter

Advance your self

Rank: Cave Painter

I hit the play button under the class title at the top of the screen and BOOM.....I have audio!!!!

Rank: Cave Painter

clicking on the audio play results in few seconds of dialogue and then stops.   Will catch the archive recorded version.

Rank: Cave Painter

Audio fine here

Rank: Cave Painter

do we advance the slide ourself?

Rank: Cave Painter

If you're unable to hear audio, be sure you clicked the Play button above. If if that doesn't work, please refresh your browser. If that doesn't work, shut down and restart the browser. If that doesn't work, switch browsers. If that doesn't work, it's possible you're dialing in from a corporate network with a firewall that blocks this stream, in which case you'll have to log in and listen to the archive later.

Thinkernetter

Ok this audio is annoying

Rank: Cave Painter

Downloading the deck

Rank: Cave Painter

Mine keeps stopping, so I am continuallly pressing play.

Rank: Cave Painter

lin crampton - Forgive me for a dumb question, but did you click the Play button. It's not autoplay.

Thinkernetter

@xre-anyone who says cloud is gonna be the end all and be all is a salesman!!!

Thinkernetter

i dont have audio either

Rank: Cave Painter

Cloud has introduce a whole new way of doing business and best business practices

Rank: Cave Painter

no audio or video?

Rank: Cave Painter

I am not getting audio either

Rank: Cave Painter

Forgot to hit play again!

Rank: Cave Painter

Audio?

Rank: Cave Painter

same here @cluebrick

but i refreshed my browser and for some reason i think it fixed it

Rank: Cave Painter

am i the only one not getting audio?

IQ Crew

Audio is fine ( using IE )

Rank: Cave Painter

Woo it's started. I think the cloud is part of the future but not the end all be all

Rank: Cave Painter

i am ready

Rank: Cave Painter

audio intermittent

Rank: Cave Painter

This is what interests me: how cloud will reshape business management and practices.

Thinkernetter

here we go!

Rank: Cave Painter

Savannah is in the house

Rank: Cave Painter

Rank: Cave Painter

Hi @dirk, Hi other 7DEErs!

Rank: Cave Painter

If audio doesn't start automatically, click the play button.  If that doesn't work, refresh.  But wait until you see it.

Thinkernetter

@Pamela, and everyone: At the top of the hour, you will see the audio magically appear at top of page.

Thinkernetter

@pamela , at exactly 2pm EST, the audio control will appear above . Push play and you will hear the audio

Rank: Cave Painter

@pamela - audio in about 3 minutes

Rank: Cyborg

@pamela - it shows in a few minutes when the audio starts.

Rank: Scrivener

looking forward to this

Rank: Cave Painter

@django1 - You're in the Christmas mood i see.

@all - Hello

In the 1970 science fiction thriller Colossus: The Forbin Project, two giant supercomputers from the United States and Soviet Union secretly join forces to take control of the collective nuclear might of the two countries. In the film, the two machines discover each other's existence, communicate back-and-forth, share their collective data, and cut their human creators out of the process. It is the ultimate example of machine-to-machine communications, or M2M.
