As we pause to remember the remarkable life and achievements of Nelson Mandela, who died yesterday at 95, we also note that the social media world in general (Twitter in particular) is firmly established as the forum for the world's reactions to major events. By 9:30 this morning, an estimated 7.2 million tweets referred to the great man's passing. That's almost certainly an underestimate; there's no doubt many messages that didn't mention him directly flew under the radar.
Out of these tweets, art was born. Photographer Miguel Rios recreated a familiar image of Mandela using the actual messages, including tweets from Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama. That's the image above -- a true social media tribute to a beloved leader. Kim Davis
