Sorry if all of our singing, clapping, and "Woohoo"-ing woke you up this morning. It's just that we're pretty jazzed today for the official launch of IE Radio at 4 p.m. ET with special guest Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist.

You may recall our premier Radio broadcast with security expert and online terrorist hunter Shannen Rossmiller, who made for a fascinating interview and stuck around for a while to chat with readers on the youChat live message boards (check out the archived show here). It was such a success that we're ready to call ourselves "pros" and make IE Radio a regular thing. And we're very excited to have Newmark help us kick things off. Officially.

For his first IE Radio appearance today, Newmark will discuss the value of social media for businesses, government, and individuals -- among other topics. Terry Sweeney will conduct the interview, but I'll be collecting (and Newmark will be reading) your questions and comments via the live message boards accompanying the broadcast. We'll ask Newmark the best ones. Or maybe the worst. Depends on our mood.

As if that is not exciting enough, Newmark has agreed to stick around on the boards after the interview and chat with you himself. (Talk about customer service!)

To take full advantage of the festivities at 4 p.m., make sure you're registered for Internet Evolution and logged in so you can participate on the youChat board, which will be running just below the IE Radio player.

And, by the way, we don't want to completely knock you out, but our post-Newmark IE Radio schedule is pretty thrilling, too. You can check out the full schedule here, but we're excited for our upcoming Radio shows featuring venture capitalist Esther Dyson; political consultant Joe Trippi; author Andrew Keen; blogger Cory Doctorow; Ford's social networking director, Scott Monty; and Second Life founder Philip Rosedale -- to name a few.

In the meantime, to tune in for what's sure to be a superb broadcast today at 4 p.m. ET, just click here: Craig Newmark, founder, craigslist

See you there!

Except, didn't you hear? Everything is beta these days! Hope everything goes off without a hitch today for you guys. Don't know if I'll be listening or not, depends on how quickly a few things get done so I'm not worrying about them at work tomorrow. If not, then I guess I'll have to catch the archive!

It's a solid addition to the site and a tremendous resource! I have an appointment just beofre, but if I talk really fast, perhaps I can catch some of it live. if not, the archives and post-chat is also fantastic!

Thanks, Steve. The whole staff has worked very hard to get IE Radio up and running, so we're very excited. Hope you can try to tune in later! If not, you'll always be able to access the broadcast and chat in the archives.

I am happy to welcome this as a regular feature. I also like the advanced notice of this and speakers/topics in the future. Although I may miss this afternoon's discussion LIVE, it is also great to have the archive for future reference, whether I attended live or not.

Great feature and brilliant addition to the site - a great new, additional way for me to bring others to the pool of talent here on the site! Bravo Nicole!

Hi Paul. As I explained in the blog, we debuted IE Radio with Rossmiller. Now we're ready to make it a regular thing, starting today, and Craig Newmark is helping us kick things off. You can call the first show a "trial," or "beta," or "debut," or whatever makes you happy. It was our first time doing it and now, as you can see on the program guide, we're going to make it a regular feature. Be sure to tune in at 4 and join the chat.

We do a lot of grousing here on Internet Evolution, and usually for good reason, considering the amount of nonsense that keeps this industry afloat on its cloud of hot steamy air!!!! But... we can still happily acknowledge those titans who have succeeded in leading the way or paving new ground in their respective fields and, in turn, give credit when it is well deserved.

A digital content market is emerging. Only two things are known about it: the first is that at some point the Internet will primarily become a paid network. The second known factor is that there are innumerable variables in the digital content market that have yet to be worked out. It’s not known, for example, exactly how users will pay for content (micropayments, subscriptions, bartering of farm animals, other).

Bad news! By eliminating the world’s digital divide we’re likely to create a new divide: the information divide, where we end up creating a two-tier Internet where access to 'quality' content is controlled and charged for by mega-corporations, and the gulf between information haves and have-nots is entirely dependent on how much money they have. This is, of course, an almost exact inversion of the current situation on the Internet – where access is expensive and content is free.

Good news! The cost of Internet infrastructure, services, and access devices has been plummeting at an accelerating rate over the last 10 years and will approach a point in the next 20 years where these technologies become so fantastically cheap that ubiquitous, low-cost, high-speed networks, storage, and access devices will effectively eliminate the digital divide for most of the world's population.
